Frequently asked questions

Where are my letters stored?

On your iPhone. Mailtrove does not keep your letters on its servers. If iCloud Backup is on, they are included in your iPhone’s backup. See the privacy policy for details.

Does anyone read my letters?

No person does. To read a letter or answer a question, the relevant photos or text are processed by Google’s Gemini AI. Our server passes them on and doesn’t keep them, and Google doesn’t use them to train its models.

The AI got something wrong. How do I fix it?

Open the letter, tap the ⋮ menu and choose Edit to correct the date, sender, receiver, category, summary or the text of any page. You can also tap Re-read next to a page to have it read again, or restore the original AI version at any time.

Can I trust the answers in “Ask”?

Answers come only from your own letters. Each answer is checked against the letters it used and shows the exact passages it’s based on — tap a source to open the original letter. If your letters don’t contain the answer, Mailtrove says so instead of guessing.

A letter is stuck on “Scanning”.

Mailtrove reads one page at a time and needs an internet connection. If the connection drops or the app is closed, it continues from the last page it finished the next time you open the app.

How do I get my data out?

Settings → Export all letters creates a ZIP file with every photo and all text that you can save to Files, iCloud Drive or your computer.

I deleted a letter by mistake.

Deleted letters stay in Settings → Recently deleted for 30 days, where you can restore them.

How do I change the language?

Mailtrove follows your iPhone’s language. To choose a different one, go to Settings → Language. Summaries of newly read letters are written in the language you choose.

What devices are supported?

iPhone running iOS 16.4 or later.
